Eye and Mind Erin Woodbridge
I think my favorite reading from the entire semester was Eye and Mind, as it melded together art and science in such a fascinating way. Ponty wrote of the art of painting as a form of vision as an extension of Hiddigers notion of humans being in the world. By exploring the scientific concept of vision Ponty is able to extend that same line of thinking to the art of painting. Ponty states that painting exists outside of life, which I find to be a fascinating way of describing this. It does make sense as the painter is showing you the world through their eyes, keeping your focus with their interpretations.
